The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The King Must Die by Mary Renault
Hunger Games is a hot new young adult (jr. and sr. high school) novel and The King must Die is a novel Carolyn and I read when we were in high school. Both are based on the myth of Theseus,
I found this to be a very engaging read, in fact I read it practically in one sitting. The focus on the hero and heroine and their love story definately distracts you from the horror of the premise, that these ramdomly chosen young people are forced to fight to the death on live TV. I wasn't able o finish the accomanying book "The King Must Die", but remember reading it long ago. I'll have to finish it later.
